The gospel is the greatest story ever told. It has the power to change lives on the spot. In short, it is the story of God’s loving pursuit of our hearts back to Himself. God desires a personal relationship with everyone and here, at Impact Church, we use a simple resource called “The 3 Circles” to help illustrate what happened to God’s original design for humanity, the brokenness we all find ourselves in, and the solution for this dilemma.
If you are not a Christ follower and want to know how to begin a relationship with God through forgiveness of your sins or are just curious to know what the Gospel is, then this is for you.
From the beginning God designed humanity to have a personal relationship with Him. He created us with a purpose to be His representative on the earth and walk with Him daily. It was God’s perfect design!
Genesis 1:31 “God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”
Unfortunately, we insisted on doing life our own way, out from under the authority of God. The Bible calls this SIN. We have all sinned and turned to our own way of doing life apart from God. The consequences of our sin is separation far from God – now and for eternity.
Romans 3:23 ” All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
That sin leads us to a place of “brokenness.” Because of this, we are separated from God and are dead in our sins. We cannot please God or restore that relationship no matter how hard we try to do the right things. However, we look to find a way out, going in many directions trying many things to figure it out. Our brokenness leads us to understand that we need something outside of ourselves to help us.
Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
Because of His love, Jesus in human flesh came to us, in our brokenness. Jesus came and lived perfectly according to God’s original design. He came to restore the kingdom of God for us. He came to rescue us – doing for us what we could never do for ourselves. He took our sin and shame to the cross, paying the penalty of our sin by His death. Jesus was raised from the dead – to provide the only way for us to be rescued and restored to a relationship with God.
John 3:16a “For God loved the world in this way. He gave His One and Only Son”
Simply hearing this good news isn’t enough.
We must admit our sinful brokenness and stop trusting in ourselves. We must ask God to forgive us – turn from our sin and trust only in Jesus. This is what it means to REPENT and BELIEVE.
Believing, we receive new life through Jesus and God turns our lives in a new direction.
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast”
When God restores our relationship to Him, we begin to discover meaning and purpose in a broken world. Now we can pursue God’s design in all areas of our lives. God’s Spirit empowers us to pursue His design and assures us of His presence in this life and for all eternity.
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.”
Invite Jesus into your heart…
Would you like to begin a relationship with Christ? You can do that right now through prayer. Understand, there is no special prayer or formula, but it is communicating with God and sharing with Him your desire to surrender your life to Him. Again, this is not “the prayer” only an example of what you might want to voice to Him:
“Lord Jesus. I confess that I am a sinner. I have tried to do my life my way and it has brought me to a place of brokenness. I need You. Please forgive me of my sins. I trust in what you have done on the cross as the payment for my sins. I believe that you died on the cross, were buried, and rose from the dead for me. Jesus, I surrender my heart and my life to You. Thank you for rescuing me!”
If you prayed something like that and meant it with all of your understanding then you are saved. God has restored your relationship through the work of Jesus, not on your own merit but by grace alone.
Your Next Step is to tell others about your commitment to Jesus. The Bible says, “if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved”. We would love to celebrate with you and encourage you in your new journey of faith.
